"My Grandmother's Hands"
CHERICE MAIDMENT

My Grandmother's Hands
My Grandmother's hands, holding a beautiful piece of home,
reminding me that the country has power through its spirit and healing energy.
Living for the land and the land living for us,
Home being a place where my identity and my comfort roams.
Through language, culture, heritage, we grow,
"Akaltye-irreme,"learning as our hearts aglow.
With each step, the past we hold,
Ancient wisdom, over 60,000 years old, being passed down to us, as the next generation.
Looking into the stars, and the night sky, where our ancestors continue to live and guide,
protecting the land, we stand on and belong to today.
We are the next generation and will continue to pave the way.

Cherice Maidment
My name is Cherice Maidment, I am 23 years old. My heritage and language group are grounded and connected through Arrernte Country, Mparntwe Alice Springs. This is my Digital, A4 art piece reflecting the next generation; strength, vision and legacy. I started to grow a passion for art during the years I was in school growing up, my favorite things to paint, draw and create are landscapes of the country and portfolios of people.
